What’s Your Hardwood Flooring Style?

Like many aspects of home design, just one feature can be customized in many different ways. Just like a sofas are available in various shapes, sizes, fabrics, patterns, colors and styles, most other elements of home design are just as flexible.

When you think about hardwood flooring, you might not be aware that there are many unique ways to incorporate these floors into your home.

According to the National Wood Flooring Association, there are three basic styles of hardwood flooring: strip, plank and parquet. Each one is available in a variety of colors, wood species and widths to create a beautiful and long-lasting foundation for your home.

Strip flooring

This is considered the most “traditional” of hardwood flooring. It’s strips are very thin in width, usually three inches or less. When place over large flooring areas, strips have a tendency to make a room appear larger.

Plank flooring

Very similar to strip flooring, planks are much wider – anywhere from three to seven inches, making for a more casually designed space.

Parquet flooring

For homeowners who want to draw attention to the floors, parquet is the way to go. These can be customized in just about any way imaginable with various geometric arrangements for a non-linear look. Designs can range from simple to complex.
